Made it to Canada last night! Getting ready for the Tattoo tonight at the Fergust Scottish Festival and Highland Games (I’m not performing at the Tattoo–this is mostly pipes and drums, “heavy” event exhibitions (like caber-tossing), the calling of the clans, and singing, none of which I’m qualified to do), and for the various talks/readings and signings I’ll be doing tomorrow.
Thought I should post the times–now that I have them–for the talks/signings:
I’ll be in what they call the Geneaology Tent (this is the biggest tent–other than the whisky tent–on the grounds; hard to miss), doing talks at 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM on Saturday, and at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM on Sunday. All talks will be followed by book-signing (usually I just sign madly until it’s time for the next talk).
I’m happy to sign any books you want to bring, but there will also be an onsite bookstore selling books–they told me last night that they’ve stocked 2000 copies of the 20th anniversary edition of OUTLANDER–I kind of hope they brought a few other titles, too–but that’s pretty cool. Not much chance of a shortage, I mean. {g}
Check out the Festival website at http://www.fergusscottishfestival.com/ and if you’re in driving distance, I’ll see you there tomorrow!
(Yes, I will have excerpts to read, from SCOTTISH PRISONER and BOOK EIGHT. Just figuring out which ones I can safely read over a microphone to an audience of several hundred innocent passersby…)
Are you going to post these excerpts on your website? Please?
Hello Diana:
I am really enjoying your writing I started with the Lord John Series and am currently reading the novel the Echo In The Bone novel.
I am for a historical novel it is very true to what I have been told about Scottish families immigrating to North America between 1700 and what living in Scotland would have been like during that time.
It is very thought provoking and very enjoyable reading.
Best wishes
Anne Wright
When do you have time to write?
Oohh , I can’t wait . I will be there rain or shine. (hopefully shine though !)
Really? Have you only written the sex scenes from Book Eight? It sounds like a realllly good book!!!
I’m looking forward to it. I haven’t been to the Fergus games for a few years – usually very hot especially in a kilt. I’ve been listing to my audiobook of An Echo in the Bone again.
Please, please post the excerpts afterwards (for those of us who can’t be there….)
Ya learn smotehing new everyday. It’s true I guess!
Yeah, maybe the Jamie barn dream sequence will have to wait for another audience
I’ll be there with my poncho on! Looks like thunderstorms tomorrow
Welcome back to Canada. May it be sunny and pleasant with little humidity. I can imagine you would have to be (cough) careful selecting excerpts to read as there would be “young” ears about.
Enjoy the Tattoo and all the MIK and fine single malt you can handle. Wish I could be there too.

Have a great time! Wish I could check out the festival, but Texas is a little too away from Canada to just hop in the car… Maybe next time!
I’m so excited to see you tomorrow!!! I will be bringing my 20th anniversary edition with me.
I was leaving work today (in Downtown Fergus) and SWORE I saw you on the other side of the street (St. Andrew Street..) and had to stop myself from crossing the street and introducing myself. Then I realized that you wouldn’t really care who the crazy lady was, accosting you on the street. And.. then I realized it wasn’t you. We’re coming to the festival though!! See you there, for real this time.
I am hoping you read the Scottish Prisoner’s opening (Jamie’s) to the audience. That ought to grab everyone’s attention — innocence not withstanding–.
Welcome back to Fergus. The tattoo was amazing and I hope the rain holds off for the rest of the weekend. Looking forward to seeing you in the geneaology tent. Enjoy your stay in “Scotland Without the Airfare” !!!
Dear Diana,
Here’s hoping you and Doug are enjoy yourselves in Fergus.
I saw a YouTube video of “Scotland the Brave” from the 2009 Fergus, and the solemnity of the drums and bagpipes players made the “hairs on the back of my neck stand”…Unfortunately, life right now is so full of A Distraction, I couldn’t make it to Fergus.
Hopefully someone might film this year’s tattoo so the rest of us can see what we’ve missed. It would nice too if someone filmed you -with your permission, of course- reading excerpts and added it to the Diana Gabaldon YouTube site (hint, hint, Fergus fan-goers).
Mar sin leibh an drà sda!
Hi Diana!
Hope that today goes well and weather cooperates even if you get to be in a tent!
I am excited to say that I will get to see you at the Surrey Writers Con.
Enjoy Fergus!
Pam
Welcome back to Canada, Diana! Sounds like you have a very busy schedule, but I hope you have time to enjoy the festival too. I look forward to hearing your talk tomorrow afternoon (even if it rains!).
loved your talk! You are hilarious! Can’t wait to read The Scottish Prisoner and Book 8! It was torture when they closed the book signing line right in front of us! Is there another way to get a signed copy? Catherine
Hi Diana….I had the good fortune of seeing you today at the Fergus Scottish Festival. Your session was amazing and I know everyone in the tent thoroughly enjoyed it, even though it was a little warm Your excerpts were awesome and now have your fans anxiously awaiting the release of A Scottish Priosoner and the arrival of Book Eight. Thanks for joining our festival and I hope to see you again in the years to come….I hope you didn’t suffer too badly from writers cramp and that you were able to at least get away for dinner….the lineup was insane!!!!
This does look promising. I’ll keep coinmg back for more.
I am so thrilled to have been there today….your books have been such an important part of my life!!! I loved your talk and Q&A. Thank you for signing my book and taking a picture with me….you were so very gracious!!! You are truly an inspiration!!!
