THANK YOU!

Dear Readers–

Well, AN ECHO IN THE BONE debuts on the New York Times list next week at #2! (My publisher sent me a large bottle of single-malt Scotch in congratulation–and, I suspect, in apology for having released Dan Brown’s book a week before ECHO [g].)

HUGE thanks to all of you, and I’m thrilled that y’all seem to be enjoying the book!

A word about the ending…I did say, did I not, “Nobody’s going to hit the end of _this_ book, and think it’s the last one?” [g] Indeed it is not. There will certainly be a Book Eight–and no, I have no idea when that one will be out. At the moment, I’m home on a (very brief) furlough from book-touring; back on the road Monday, and won’t be home for good until Thanksgiving, which is the soonest I could reasonably resume anything like a productive writing routine–as well as a prequel volume about Jamie’s parents, a Volume II of the OUTLANDISH COMPANION, and heaven knows what-all else. But the story is definitely not over!

  1. First let me say that I, like others have been spoiled by Diana as far as getting the same level of enjoyment out of books I used to read.:)and, being an audiobook listener I must say that Davina Porter has definetly done the same thing! She is an ARTIST and if you have never listened to her readings of the unabridged books I urge you to find them at your bookstore or library and LISTEN! I find myself hearing all kinds of things I missed reading and her voices are PHENOMINAL! She brings a whole new level of enjoyment to the books-be prepared tho- again you will not find another reader who is this good:D…and this opinion is supported by everyone I've gotten to listen to her read!! ENJOY

  2. I totally agree with Robyn! Davina is a fantastic reader. I am on the road 3 hours a day and it is a joy to have Jamie and Claire join me during this time. I laughed out loud the other day when I "saw" the goings on in the kitchen with Claire and Jem baking cookies, and everyone falling all over the floor in A Breath of Snow and Ashes.

  3. I've finished my second reading of Echo, and I apppreciate deeper the intrincacies of it.
Thanks Diana for writing the way you do and say what you want, that is what a good writer do.
Your books have such a deep and vivid life!!!!
The four lines and the complexity of them, are amazing. The pace of the book and the way the different stories are developed is also new and exciting.
Claire and Jamie act their age, thanks for that!To find people in the late fifties acting like twenysomthing is idiotic, ( but some people seems to want to see it)
The end went with a BANG, but a very good one. Claire and LJ could not have done anything else.
LJ is one of your best characters, witty, strong, intelligent and honest, and his interaction with the Frasers get the best of him.
The only problem: three years to wait for the next? It hurts, but is worth the waitting.
    Thnak you and take car

  4. I totally agree with Robin and Mrs. H. Davina Porter brings the entire Outlander series to life with her amazing range of voices and accents. After reading the books first, it was wonderful to actually hear the voices bring the pages to life. She has spoiled me for any other reader on audiobooks – and no one could do Jamie or Claire better. Check Outlander out at the library first and give it a try. You'll want to own them all!

  5. My reading of "Echo" is a work in progress. I'm listening to the CDs whilst delivering the mail and reading in the evening.
It is wonderful and I know how hard it's going to be to return to the 21st century!

I want to let you know how strange (weird..but fun)it is to be driving in the north woods ,about 12 miles from Fort Ti, and hearing about your favorite characters interaction with the place and historical personages.
The bits about Benedict Arnold tickle me to pieces! I live in the town where he built the first US Navy (such as it was).
Hey, I'll bet we have the only McDonald's with Benny's portrait…

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and thank you for these great reads.

  6. Thank you for ECHO–but the ending left me thinking, "How could she???" Cannot wait for book 9 of course. Sorry to have missed you here in Sydney–had to work… Best wishes.

  7. Someone knows when is it coming to Spain?

  8. Hello Diana.. thank you for the new book. I love Outlander Series… I buy all the books waiting for the next.. but God.. this book… William is very annoying … Jamie is awesome, but their children, Brianna and Willie are a pain in the ass. Lord John and Willie parts bore me so much.

    Kisses for you.

  9. Diana-

I love the new book, in fact I (quite literally) did a snoopy -style dance when I found it at the library (my husband is in the army and that does not leave room in the budget for my book addiction)… however, I am not a big fan of Cliff Hangers and I anxiously await the next book. I reread the last 2 chapters, convinced that I had maybe skipped a page! I need to know what happens next!!!

My mom handed over Outlander when I was in high school and I have been addicted since then. Your characters are amazing, and they become real as you read. I have read and/or lended the first 4 books so often that my copy of Outlander has disappeared and none of them have their covers.

I thank you for writing something that is soooo AWESOME (couldn't think of a better word)

    -Kamilla Graham

  10. If William has heard the rocks sing, in or out of the fog, is he going forward to his sister or back to the frog. I have not finished Echo because it is frustrating to me that you spend so much time on other projects, and I am trying to stretch it out.
