Happy New Year – Top 8 of ’08

Top 8 of ’08

I had some difficulty coming up with a good list, largely because I like all kinds of things (dachshunds, murder mysteries, Audi SL6′s, hickory-smoked barbecue…), but not necessarily eight of any of them. On the other hand, I do like to eat. And cook.

So here’s a list of my favorite eight recipes. As time allows over the next couple of weeks, I’ll actually post said recipes, but for now—I spent eight hours today driving to and from Indio, CA, to pick up my new dachshund puppy (name still up for grabs, though it might be Homer), and am consequently about to head for bed.

  1. They all sound good! Can’t wait for the recipes!

Congrats on the new family edition! I’m wanting a new Pembroke Welsh Corgi, as a friend for Harleigh, and, given the Corgi propensity to eat everything that doesn’t eat them first, I shall name it Hoover…

  2. dear Diana
Happy new year to you and your family.
God always protects you and your family and never makes you miss his love.
    love from Italy Mariella

  3. I make your machaca recipe quite often and my kids love it.

Happy New Year and congrats on the new puppy. I love the name Homer, btw.

  4. I am eagerly anticiapting the recipes! Many Blessings to you and your family (and newest addition) this new year!

  5. Happy New Year Diana!!!! Many blessings to you and your family in 2009!!! Mmm… many of those things sound yummy! Thanks in advance for sharing your recipes!! Awww! A new wienie dog!!! My DH had one when he was growing up. Homer sounds like a cute name!

  6. Happy New Year!!

Congrats on the new puppy. We miss our Doxie. Boris was with us for a long time. We don’t have the heart to replace him just yet.

    We’ve had
Boris, Bruno, Hexa (the name fit her I swear, it was prophetic), Jakob. I really wanted to get Boris a GalPal and name her Natasha. Then get cats and name them Rocky and Bullwinkle.

The DH wasn’t down for it.

So we’re gonna work on getting a new DH. [grin]

  7. Oh, yummy, I can’t wait for the recipes. If you like brownies I’ve got an AWESOME recipe for mint brownies!! And a very happy New Year to you and welcome to the lil puppy, I think Homer is a great name.

  8. Oh, Diana:

I knew I liked you! So, what kind of curry do you eat/make? Indian? Japanese? Thai? My little family is curry-crazed, eating any kind in any form.

Enjoy your new family member. Being married to a landscape architect doesn’t allow for us to own a dog. Tom collects cycads, many being prized specimens and protected by CITES. A dog would invite a heart attack if it looked sideways at or lifted its leg in the direction of one.

    Happy New Year.

  9. Dear Merrymags–

Well, see, you have one yard for the cycads and one for the dog. All you need is a bigger place. [g]

  10. Homer is an excellent name for a Dachsund. :D

I had your machaca recipe at one time; can’t wait to see if I remembered it right!

  11. Oh, I’m soooo hungry! As for the puppy, I love Homer, but how about the Graf? (she asked not so innocently).

    Bedelia

  12. Dear Bedelia–

I’d love to have a dachshund named Von Namtzen [g], but I think the rest of my family might have reservations.

  13. Dear Diana,

I have put the list in my blog, with the link here for follow-up receipes. Thanks so much for playing along!

  18. Homer, the Dachshund?

    How about Badgerdeath, the Destroyer?

You’ll understand better when it starts teething.

  19. What color is your weenie dog? My family had a white one once…looked like cookies and cream ice cream and named Pippin for his runt-like state. Is yours red, black, dappled, or piebald?
