“Other Projects” could be anything from gardening (my garden was Severely Neglected all through the fall, since I was gone, book-touring. So I’ve been spending an hour a day ripping out grass, pruning rosebushes (we finally had a cold snap last week, so they went dormant at last), yanking grapevines out of my pomegranate tree (don’t ask), and tripping over dachshunds who are having a great time digging for gophers) to cooking (made potato-leek soup for the first time last month, for my husband, who loves it and was disgruntled that the restaurant where he usually ordered it had taken it off their menu) to building a scale model of the Titanic in my backyard, I suppose (no, I’m not doing this).
As it is, I figured I’d skip the purely domestic (unless I find something Really Unusual in my garden–and now and then, I do–like a flock of feral peach-faced lovebirds, eating my pomegranates), so “Other Projects” at the moment are mostly other people’s projects–i.e., movies, mini-series, musicals–though I’m also including bits from a nonfiction book I’m working on (in desultory fashion) called “The Cannibal’s Art,” which has to do with What I Know About Writing. (And you do learn a few things over the course of twenty years at it.)
