April Appearances

April Appearances

I’ve mostly been staying home and writing this month. Yes, am definitely working on both SCOTTISH PRISONER and Book Eight [g]—though this week, most of my work time has been devoted to reading/correcting the galleys for THE EXILE—for which the cover art has just been released! (Yes, yes, yes, Claire should indeed be wearing her shoes here [g], and with luck, that will be fixed along with a number of other small things. And the flashes among the rocks are musket-fire.)

I’m doing a few appearances/jobs this month, but most of them are not public functions (I’ll be giving the keynote speech at the Glyph Awards banquet, for instance—this is the annual dinner for the Arizona Publishers Association—and judging undergraduate science presentations for Northern Arizona University’s UGRAD program; also meeting with the committee of judges for the Agassiz Prize for Science Writing, which I (and a couple of like-minded scientists) fund and support).

The one thing that _is_ public is a book-signing held as part of the local RWA chapter’s “Desert Dreams” conference (I’m doing a workshop for them, too, but that’s open only to conference attendees). That’s this Saturday—April 17th—at the Chaparral Suites hotel, and the mass book-signing (attended by _all_ the published authors at the conference, not just me) will be open to the public.

Owing to the large number of people participating, the bookseller can’t bring _all_ the titles for everyone, so they asked me which of my books I’d like to have available for sale. They’ll have OUTLANDER in hardcover and trade paperback, ECHO in hardcover, and THE OUTLANDISH COMPANION (hardcover), but if you would like to bring your own books to be signed, too, that’s totally OK by me.

The book-signing runs from 5:45 – 7:00 PM. See you there!

  1. I am nearly beside myself, waiting for the Exile to come out! (So, I think, is the hubby, but mostly so I will stop effervescing about it. *Smile*)

The cover art, like everything else you've shown us regarding the graphic novel is amazing (Claire's bare feet, notwithstanding *grin*), and just adds to my anticipation. :D

  2. Ohhhhh soooo great to hear you are writing…will these books be out in audio…and will The Exile be in audio too…if so …audible.com? ..or whaere?? So looking forward to the new books. Absolutely LOVE the cover of THe Exile…am bouncing round in anticipation :)

  3. Tee hee…new Lord John coming! New Jamie and Claire coming. I am orgasmic!

  4. Dear Joan–

Er…I don't _think_ anyone has plans to release THE EXILE in audio form. [g] I think a graphic novel might lose something in translation, as it were.

But I'm sure LORD JOHN AND THE SCOTTISH PRISONER and Book Eight (whatever it ends up being called) will certainly be available in audio format–they're both under contract with Recorded Books (who have done all the other novels, with Davina Porter and Jeff Woodman), and since there's no contractual difficulty with the book publisher (that's what prevents FIERY CROSS and ABOSAA being sold through audible.com for a few years yet–though they _are_ both available from http://www.recordedbooks.com –), they should be released pretty much simultaneously with the first hardcover publication.

  5. But Claire _is_ wearing shoes on the cover (-:

  6. Diana~ I am SO super excited about Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner (and book eight, of course!) I have always been fascinated by his relationship with Jamie and can't wait to find out more!! Good luck at your conference!!

  7. I don't see the problem. The shoes are clearly in Jamie's sporran.

  8. I'm so excited to see a cover I didn't even notice she didn't have shoes on. Yay "The Exile" is getting close to published!

  9. Dear Seesanwar–

Yep–September 21 is the official pub date.

  10. I saw thee cover art of The Exile in Amazon a few days ago, and Wow!!I just loved it! Can't wait to buy

I am a BIG fan of both Outlander and comics, like the ones you showed from the graphic novel, so I am pretty excited! :)

  11. I love everything you write. I am a true fan! I really wish I could have one of my books signed…have you ever considered visiting a military installation for a book signing? We military wives AND soldiers really love your books. I am over here in Fort Leonard Wood, MO right now. Just a thought (smile)…

  12. I see her shoes too, Bea. They look like the loafers she should be wearing. But I think her dress had some sort of pattern, if I remember correctly. Oh darn, I'll just read Outlander again [G]. Then I'll read the rest again. At least summer is coming!

  13. Shouldn't Claire be wrapped in Jamie's plaid? She was worried she'd be impossible to be distinguished from Jamie in case of an ambush. I'm so eager to see the artwork as well as Murtaugh's point of view.

  14. What a nice surprise to see the cover! Can't wait for the release – still in September?

  15. OK – DUHHH… I AM a Dodo! Graphic …be really hard to make an audio of that….SO yes I am really looking forward to seeing that.
Am on my fourth run of your wonderful books now, (up to Voyager again)and its quite surprising how much you pick up each time. Can't wait to see your eighth one. and the new Lord John one. Am so delighted you are busy with your writing…Off back to listening. Jamie is in the middle of a sea-sickness bout …poor man :)

  16. Just ordered mine from The Poisened Pen on Thursday. I am very excited about Exile coming out. It will probably be a coffee table book and my family will roll their eyes at me. :)

  17. When you click on the cover art and enlarge it either Claire is wearing shoes or she has some muddy feet. Any way you look at it I'm excited about this book finally an outlander novel my hubby will read ,too. BIG grin.

  18. Is it strange that I'm "anxious" about the graphic novel. I don't think I want to change the way that I have "pictured" all the characters for so long. :( Is that way weird?

  19. The Cover of the Graphic Novel is beautiful, I couldn't stop looking at it. Wow.
Did I get this right, will the novel be a slightly different take on the story (according to the subheading)? And will the Graphic Novel cover "only" the first novel or more?

That's all so exciting and I can't wait to get my hands on it :)
    Greets and Love from Germany!

  20. I LOVE the cover art! I am even more excited about this graphic novel than I was about Echo, mainly because I'm an artist myself and am chomping at the bit to see the art!! I think the artist has done an amazing job :)
