Sorry to be so absent for the last bit; out of town for several days, during which our Fat Dachshund, Gus (whom some of you have met in the pages of BROTHERHOOD OF THE BLADE [g]) developed pancreatitis and kidney failure of unknown cause. Our son was watching house and livestock for us, and called to tell me Gus was having bloody diarrhea (sorry for the details), so I asked Sam to take him to the emergency veterinary clinic (this being the weekend). We thought we might lose him at least twice over the last two or three days, and he’s frankly not doing well–but he’s still got a chance, and we want him to have it, as long as he’s in good hands and not suffering. So he’s on “supportive care” at a very good animal hospital, and…we’ll hope he gets better. All good thoughts much appreciated.
I’m going down to the hospital to visit him now (they let you visit 24 hours a day); will give him all your good wishes. Thanks.
Diana,
I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I understand the place a pet fills in the families heart. I hope all turns out well for you.
Dear Diana,
Bring him my good wishes!!
Sarah
Oh, God bless and heal Gus and I’ll say a little prayer to Saint Francis too.

Dear Diana:
Healing vibes sent for Gus and coping vibes sent for you and your family. It is so rough to have our furry faced family facing medical care. Give Gus gentle strokes and ear rubs from me too.
It is wonderful that your Vet has 24 hour visiting hours, that could make all the difference.
Hugs
Vicki
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that! I just love Gus. He is such a great character. Love to him and you both as well. Keep us posted.
Diana:
So sorry to read about Gus. He must have been (still is) a very sick pooch — so horrible.
On a slightly different note, my sister almost died two years ago from a bout of pancreatitis. It hit her like a brick wall, out of nowhere, and now she must be careful as another bout may prove fatal. She is only 43 years old and has always enjoyed excellent health. Up until her experience I had never heard of it.
You are in my thoughts….
Midge
Diana,

Diana,
This is the first time I post on your blog, but I visit everyday, I love everything you write.
I´m from Spain, so forgive me for my bad english. I hope Gus gets better very soon, I understand you, my dog Kia has leishmania (don´t know if it´s the same name in english, sorry), and I´m very worry about her.
Gus will gets better soon,
Kisses from Spain.
Nani.
Hi Diana,
I’ll also say a prayer to St. Francis of Assisi on behalf of Gus.
Positive thoughts.
Take care.
Diana,
So sorry to hear about poor Gus. It is so sad and scary when pets become so ill. It sounds as though you are doing all you can and providing him with excellent care. Let’s hope the TLC does the trick!
My thoughts will be with Gus and your family!
Diane
Dear Diana,
I thought I’d give you my impressions about the image of Claire for your graphic novel. I’m a visual artist as well as an aspiring writer (children’s stories) and 58 years old. What I’d like to see in Claire’s face is less of the Clairol Girl (remember those faces?) and more wisdom in those eyes, even in her twenties she had steel in her character as well as the obvious physical allure of her physical being.
I am curious if you have done a “family tree” for Claire. I am wondering if their is a trace of someone from her ancestry that leads her forward and backward too. The Sin Eater shares her eyes…. hmmm
Get well Gus !!
Mac the spolit Border Collie from Australia sends him love and best wishes. Mac had been in hospital too in the past week or so for an unusal lump to be removed… all is well with Mac and I am sure Gus will be better soon !
Cheers Jo-Anne
