  1. The ending on STARZ could not have been different. It had to be ambiguous as the tenth novel is not finished – now so many stories (especially give Blood of my Blood). Yes, given the title of the last book, Jamie is going to die – not this way? Why would Claire take Brianna and that family back to that time and die, given we now know David cannot travel? So much more given how many children, but especially this story has always been about Claire – too much family to leave it alone in cinema and why it ended as it did.

  2. Spectacular! I think Nayawenne’s prophecy that Claire would reach the height of her power once her hair turned white was correct. I got up at 5:45 AM to watch it before leaving for work. It was perfect. I can’t stop thinking about it. Thank you.

  3. I thought most of the last episode was great. There was a lot of time spent on family. The battle while not historically correct (the Patriots showed up and immediately went up the mountain) was excellently portrayed. But they didn’t strip Ferguson of his weapons? After Jaime was shot, the entire troop would have been murdered. Lastly, most people wouldn’t be shot dead by a musket ball. Usually death occurred by infection. To leave them on the mountaintop was ridiculous. Needed to finish at the Ridge.

  4. The finale introduced that Fanny is a time traveler when the gemstone burned her hand. Claire’s hair went from streaked with white to fully white while she was lying with Jamie after he was shot. Her Indian friend, who’s name I forget, said she would come into her “full power” when her hair turned white. This was referenced numerous times throughout the story. These two elements make it seem like the writers of the show have set things up to continue beyond this final episode… Did they do that “just in case???”

  5. Diana – I would really love to see a series about Lord John on Starz. I’m sure he is very popular. I love his character and the actor who plays him.

  6. I loved it! I did have to rewatch those last few seconds/minutes a number of times to catch all the important parts. So excited for Book 10!

  7. What a beautiful story! I cannot wait for the book to come out. I’m sure we will read more detail in the book about Lord John & Willie’s final story as well as Frances ability to time travel. Will she ever tell Claire what happened when she held that precious stone? Will Claire tell her what it means?
I don’t know what was wrong with me. I seemed to cry watching every episode. Did that happen to anyone else? The ending…What an ‘eye opener’! LOVED IT! I want more.
Thank you Diana for giving us this story of true love!

  8. Dear Diana!

I only saw parts of the last episode, but even then I was in tears. It’s a shame they didn’t end it like in “Bees” when they were back home. It’s cruel to end it on a cliffhanger. But I trust that they’re together. Your appearance was brilliant! If it was a tribute to your work, they did it beautifully, and you deserved it.

As you always say so nicely: “The show is the show, the books will always be books.”

I’m looking forward to “Blessing” and hope we don’t have to wait too much longer.

I often visit your German page and love all the little snippets that Bärbel gets to contribute!

    Best regards from Germany

  9. At the end, when they both opened their eyes, I expected to see Jamie start tapping his finger! LOVED the postscript with the book signing and your explanation, “A wee bit of inspiration!”

  10. I have enjoyed everything about the books and the series, the audio books as well. Enjoying Blood of My Blood. Looking forward to whatever gift comes next. Thank you.

  11. The books and the series have entertained me for so many years and will continue to do so. The shift from Henri-Christian’s death to Fergus’ was beautifully mastered and I appreciated it. The final episode left that last little bit of magic: how do we keep the past alive and what does that mean to us. I’m glad you circled around to the ghost in Scotland before Claire goes to the stones the first time. Thanks for the books and I can’t wait for more.

  12. What a beautiful ending to an incredible show. Outlander has been part of my life since the very first season, and it’s so hard to say goodbye to Jamie, Claire, Ian, Brianna, Roger, William, and all the others. Their story has meant so much to me over the years.

Of course, there are still some questions left unanswered, but I’m still incredibly happy and satisfied with the ending.

Now a new chapter begins – I’m finally going to read all the books. Thank you, Diana, for creating such a wonderful story and unforgettable characters.

  13. Diana and I have been reading your books since 1991 I believe for the most part the series did OK. The storyline changes were ridiculous though with Murtaugh surviving killing Fergus, instead of the dwarf. But I really feel you sold out to the production company and change things you shouldn’t have instead of spending time on minor storylines if you have to cram things in so much, you should’ve focused more on the main characters. I’m very disappointed and then to leave us in the final episode with a cliffhanger of Jamie‘s eyes opening without any kind of explanation there other than Claire’s hair turning white come on you can do better. I really don’t. I really hope you don’t ruin book 10 because that will mean that my life has been wasted reading your books waiting for a good ending and then you go do something crazy I know you probably won’t even print this on your page, but I hope you at least read it. I also need to say I think every one of your books was excellent except I feel like book 9 was disjointed and rushed. Please don’t do me wrong with book 10. I have cancer and I know I don’t have enough time for you to ever write another book about outlander for me.

  14. We need more détails than the tv show gave. Where is the blue light, where is Raymond? The last season added many secoundary stories and people but didn’t really explained them properly. It makes no sense for many of us with this impression than they left Outlander at the middle of the story. I hope books could fix it and give all details we need to close this beautiful ten years of Outlander in our life in peace. Thank you for writing them.

    • Yes, it was very disappointing to see Clare just laying there, when the “blue light” power had been depicted when Roger and his Great-Great-etc. Uncle were treated by the time-traveler they encountered while on the quest to find Jemmy, it would have been very dramatic visually for Clare to actively probe with her fingers turning blue. The TV writers blew it and in the process confused every viewer who hadn’t read the book.

  15. I loved the last episode, ever decision made…from using the first season’s opening credits, to the after-credit scene. Typically, series finales always feel like a bit of a letdown. This one did not. I will miss my weekly new episodes that were always shared with my mother. I will miss seeing my “old friends” come back on screen after a break.
For at least three-quarters of the finale’s runtime, I was crying. I feel like it was very well done and a perfect farewell to our friends these last twelve years spent together. I wish I could thank every single person involved that brought the show to life, there are no words to say how grateful I am for it. It has been an escape for me in the hardest times that have come throughout these years. I would thank Ms. Gabaldon most of all, for creating the world for us to fall into. Outlander has been with me since I was a little girl. I was 8 years old when I took the hardback to my mother in the bookstore, just because I thought it had a pretty cover. I was much older when I read that same copy for myself, but since then I have revisited both the books, and now the televison series often. I look forward to seeing where we go next in this journey. Thank you a million times over.

  16. Oh my….. The last scene was spectacular!! Even my husband gasped (even myself) at the end (something he never does). You left us hanging and wanting more..

  17. I’m still crying this morning!!
I can’t wait to get my hands on book 10!!
Thank you Diana for such amazing writing!

  18. I’ve been a follower since the first book became available in New England. My husband (now deceased) and I greatly enjoyed the show but after “my Jamie” died, I have reread the 9 books repeatedly . The books and the show have impacted my life so much that I have gone to local Highland Games and visited Scotland last year. (and went to the Poisoned Pen to pay my tribute to the Author). How Jamie/Claire meet their ends has personal meaning for me. I wrote this just to say that I was very pleased with the ending. It encouraged me to continue to believe in those things that can not be explained. Faith, Hope, Love. Now I await the 10th book. Thank you Diana and Starz.

  19. So much happens in the last season-events which are not depicted in Go Tell the Bees that I have gone which is why I cannot wait for the final book. I don’t want Jamie to die not after all they have been through. After all she travelled 200 years to return to him.

  20. Please let there be a movie from the final book. The series finale was gut wrenching but I hope three will be a bit more. Best books ever. Thank you for writing them.

    • I just finished watching the last episode of Outlander and I watched it through to the end. When I thought it was over I kept watching to see if it was really over and was surprised when Jamie took a deep breath to show that he still lived. Did he?
