That would be me.
In answer to questions about my immediate whereabouts this weekend at the Bookmarks Book Festival in Winston-Salem, NC:
1:00 – 1:45 PM – talk/reading on Main Stage
1:45 – 3:30 (with bathroom break somewhere in there, I hope) – book-signing
(No, there will NOT be copies of THE EXILE available; it won’t be released until the launch part on Sept. 21)
3:30 – 4:15 – Panel discussion with two NC authors (whose names I unfortunately forget) about “Sense of Place” – on Main Stage
4:15 – more book-signing, if anyone still needs it.
MANY thanks to all the kind people who’ve welcomed me to NC and invited me to come places, eat with them, etc. I’m afraid that I’m only there for the one day, though, and am meeting with smaller groups all morning, and dining with the Festival organizers Saturday evening. Much Obliged, though, and I’ll hope for more leisure to meet with y’all next time!
Oh–while we’re at it, I see the Poisoned Pen has put up a Really Nice blogpost about the launch part for THE EXILE at

Diana,
Looking forward to the release of The Exile! (Even without the unexpurgated art, hehehe.)
I was hoping to come to NC, but will have to wait until the end of the month and see you at the Book Festival in DC.
I was wondering if you will be bringing copies of The Exile, and/or the Outlander Musical cds to the National Book Festival??? Will there be a signing??
April
Good grief, you are one busy woman! When is your so-called "down time"?
Pam
Woo hoo! Thanks for the update and looking forward to seeing you there!
Dear April–
_I_ won't be bringing books, etc., no. What, you figure I travel around with cartons of books? [g] No–there'll be copies of THE EXILE for sale, there; there's a bookseller's tent. I won't be selling CD's at the National Book Festival, though; it's not a place for side operations, owing to the tight time constraints and the general air of officialdom.
See you there!
–Diana
Dear Pam–
I gather the general attitude is that I can sleep when I'm dead…
Actually, that was one of the nice things about having my knee replaced; I got to do just about nothing (and sleep all I wanted) for two weeks. [g] I guess I can have the other one replaced, next time I get tired.

Diana:
Can't wait! Very excited. See you Saturday!

Diana is coming to Charleston West Virginia where I live! I'm going to get to meet Herself.
Diana, I just wanted to say thanks for allowing your Outlander books to be published via Kindle through Amazon. My summer project was to re-read the series from start to finish in one great reading. So, using my trusty Kindle I've downloaded each of the books and just finished up Echo in the Bone last night. The Lord John books arrived on my Kindle just a few minutes ago, you know to round out my reading! I know some authors & publishers are hesitant to release their books electronically, but I can say it's allowed me to own all your books in the printed form and electronically. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to the further adventures of Jamie and Claire!
Diana,
I am sure you could find a nice strapping Scottish lad, in a kilt, to carry around the books for you, LOL.
I stand corrected.
I was really looking forward to getting my hands on a cd. Next time I guess.
Thanks for your time.
April
Dear April–
I'm sure we can get you a CD. [g] Let me figure out the best way of doing that, and I'll put up a blog post about it. A bit later, though–I'm in Winston-Salem now, and need to sleep a little more before I start the day's work!
–Diana
Hello Diana,
Just out of curiosity, when you were getting your knee done, did you, even for the smallest second, wonder if you could adapt that procedure to XVIIIth century standards and use it in your 8th book?
Just curious…
Hope you're having a great time in Salem! Any idea if you're ever coming to Northeast Ohio any time soon?
Counting the days till the release of The Exile….
Diana,
You are the best. Honestly, and sincerely.
xoxo
April
Dear Anne-Marie–
Nah, there's no conceivable way of doing something like that in the 18th century, believe me. [g] Implant technology and surgical skill quite aside, it's surgery in which infections are Very Serious, leading to limb amputations and/or death, and consequently, it's done in a laminar-flow room with _the_ highest standards of sterility. You'd never get close to that.

I really enjoyed hearing you speak at Bookmarks, and having you sign my book. It was an honor to meet you, even if it was just a few seconds. I look forward to the release of 'The Exile'. Take care, Diana, and I hope you get some much needed rest.
Hello Diana – I am like a child waiting for Christmas. Just seven more sleeps! (But who can sleep?) I pre-ordered "The Exile" a couple of weeks ago and come September 21st I'll be rushing home from work to see if the postman has been with a package for me. As a treat to myself, I also ordered "The Outlandish Companion". Can't wait….
I just wanted to thank you for bringing back the joy of reading to me. I used to be an avid reader, but with raising four children and working full time, reading had somehow over the years got pushed to the background. One of my daughters gave me "The Outlander" last Christmas and since then I've read all seven "Outlanders", all the "Lord John" books, Sara Donati's "Wilderness" series, thanks to your recommendation (which I also loved) and numerous other random books. My children threaten me that they'll have to do an intervention!
Come to Toronto soon, we love you up here!
Elaine
Hi Diana!
Whoopee! I just found out that you are going to be at Borders in Westbury on my anniversary Oct. 7. Lucky day and Happy Anniversary to me! (I'll just have to celebrate the next day). Can't wait to meet you and get some of my collection signed! I love an adore all of your wonderful books! So exciting.
