Once the story of Jamie Fraser and Claire Beauchamp Randall Fraser has come to an end, perhaps in A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT (Book Ten) of my OUTLANDER series of novels, will there be more?
Yes! I am writing at least one prequel novel, which occurs before OUTLANDER. This new book has the tentative title of A BIRD IN THE HAND will tell the story of Jamie Fraser‘s parents. It may have two sequels. (And I’d like to write a Master Raymond novel at some point.)

When Will The first OUTLANDER Prequel Novel Be Finished?
I am currently writing A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT, Book Ten of my Outlander series of novels, my primary focus. Publication dates for BLESSING and A BIRD IN THE HAND (the first prequel novel) will be announced after I finish writing each of them. Periodically I release excerpts from BLESSING and BIRD.
“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” TV Series
Sony and Starz began production of an Outlander prequel TV series titled “Blood of My Blood” on January 22, 2024, which explores the lives of Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie, as well as Claire’s parents.
The first two episodes premiered on Starz on August 8, 2025 in the U.S.A. Episodes are available via the Starz streaming service in the U.S.A. For access in other countries around the globe, please check with your local cable and streaming services.
It’s wonderful. I really, really like this show, and I hope you all will, too!
No doubt the “Blood of My Blood” tv series (aka BOB) and my prequel novel(s) will have a few things in common. <g>
Was Faith Alive In The Outlander Novels?
No. She wasn’t! Even though she is found alive in the Starz/Sony tv series. Which brings up another topic that I discussed in an interview (and added as a blog entry here on my website):

Likewise, my prequel novels will not include the stories of Claire’s parents. (They’e dead.) The two tv series, “Blood of My Blood” and “Outlander” are adaptations of my novels, so have some differences.
