I concur with the comments above. I had stopped looking for new excerpts --there seemed to be a long lag, but I also wanted Diana to spend a lot of her time just writing and polishing Book 10. I found these last three excerpts just a few days ago. They are great, especially the last one. Often, however, the excerpts bring up some major questions which tend to make us even more anxious to read the book. I do want the excerpts to continue, however. It is to be the last of the Claire-Jamie series and it needs to be exceptional as I am sure it will be. We love these two and 98% of the "supporting cast". I want all the "good guys" to have "happy endings" or "happy continuings", but this has to be Diana's vision and I intend to be patient even though that is hard.

Hello, Diana! Captivating is the word that comes to my mind when you read this passage aloud at the Wake County Libraries Outlander program zoom meeting. You filled the reading with SO much emotion that I did not have a dry eye when you finished!!! Love hearing you read aloud. Have a very blessed and merry Christmas!

Hello-
Many thanks to you all for providing us these little snippets to help us hold on til we have the full meal. It definitely keeps the fire burning and even helps my memory stay fresh regarding all the characters and plots. Thanks for allowing folks to post questions and comments. This is truly a labor of love and you obviously don’t HAVE to do this! It means so much to me.
This is a bit heavy but I must share- my sister in law was very sick and she has since succumbed to her illness, but on my last visit to see her in the hospital, I pulled out my phone and read an excerpt from the first book, (where Jamie asks Claire if she’s a witch). Even in my sister in law’s pain and discomfort, she lay there smiling and squeezing my hand at the beautiful storyline, a tear tracing down her cheek. I was able to bring some humanity into that space rather than the cold impersonal experience that can be a long term hospital stay. It’s something I’ll cherish always. You made that possible by providing the snippets here to be shared with others so easily. So again, thank you! I will patiently reread and search out any Easter eggs hidden here until I have the next Starz season AND the next book!!!
Love y’all!!!

Hi, Betty,

At least a zillion!

As of December 16, 2025, Diana is still writing A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT, Book 10 of her Outlander series of novels.

If you'd like more information about her writing process, see her Writer's Corner (What I Do) at:

https://dianagabaldon.com/resources/what-i-do/

Once Diana finishes WRITING the book, it goes through the editing and publication process with her U.S. publisher first, which can take a few months or a year or so. (Each publisher in different publishing zones around the world will also do their own version of this, plus translations if necessary.) So when a book comes out in the U.S.A. or elsewhere depends on a lot of variables. She discussed the publication process in this blog from 2015:

https://dianagabaldon.com/resources/what-i-do/what-finished-means/

The crux of the biscuit is that we'll see a publishing date for A BLESSING FOR A WARRIOR GOING OUT listed here on Diana's website and her official Facebook page as soon as that date has been set by her publishers.

It takes years for Diana to write each of her major novels, which are upwards of 700 pages long (large books!). Plus she researches all of the history that goes into them, too.

So we just gotta hang on.

There's also her Lord John stories and short fiction, if you haven't read them. Here is a list of her short fiction by title and where it appeared:

https://dianagabaldon.com/books/novellas-and-short-fiction/all-short-fiction-by-title/

And her novel featuring Lord John:

And there's Diana's "Methadone List" of authors she recommends:

Happy Holidays!

I love this, the relationship between Jamie and William is so precarious but in showing William he was loved by both his birth parents from the outset, I hope it allows for more stability to come (but that he does not forget his wonderful stepfather - like Brianna). Cannot stop reading the excerpts, books, short stories that enhance the major ones. Thank you so much Diana Gabaldon for being so fantastic a storyteller and giving us bits and pieces to keep us going :)
