I started reading Outlander in the 90’s on an airplane. Stupidly, I managed to leave it behind in the chaos of getting my family disembarked. There was no available bookstore to replace it near the ski resort, so my misery was acute! Imagine a vacation without anything to read? Buying another copy was an absolute priority back home. Every book in the series has been an absolute joy to read and reread. Thank you

I started reading your books in 1995. I read the second one first, and honestly, it was and still is my favorite— I think it’s something to do with the relationship between Claire and Roger—even though others said they felt it a bit slower than Outlander. One day, a friend of mine who liked to read, but not, in her words, “romance-like books” came over to my house very excited because she wanted to share this “incredible” book she had read. And before she got any further words out of her mouth, I said “Jamie and Claire, of course!” The look on her face was priceless. It’s just the best love and adventure and everything story, and I love that the foundation is a committed married couple and never needed any extramarital affairs, which seems to be the focus of most entertainment. These characters are completely real to me after all of these years. And I have often said to other people, can you imagine how real they are to the person who created them, how they have inhabited most of her life? Thank you for telling the story. I have two novels I’ve been trying to sell—one with historical elements (Minturn, CO, in the late 1800s and a descendant haunted by a murdered woman), likely due to your influence—and I really relate to what you said about not sharing it with anyone. I have done so, but very carefully. All that to say, thank you for the best reading experience a person can have, one in which she forgets she is actually reading because she herself is living in the story. I can’t wait for the conclusion of the books. P.S. I also often tell people who like the TV series that they are missing out on So Much Humor and they must read. Also, thank you for truly spoonfeeding me history. I’m a fiction reader because it’s my entertainment. I work in publishing, and nonfiction for me, as much as I would enjoy that, requires my full attention and notetaking. I would rather absorb it through story.ay God bless you and yours, richly. —Laura

Dear Diana,

I'v been working in publishing as a (fiction) editor for 35 years (in the meantime I upgraded to ghostwriter :-)) and I must have read at least a few thousand books in this time. Yours have always been and will always be right on top of my "favourite novels" list (with the works of Gillian Bradshaw and Pat Conroy's The Prince of Tides).
Just sayin' ;-)

Looking forward to the next one,

Hi, Lyn,

Um... Diana's first book wasn't written in "fear." Of what?

Diana in the late 1980s was a busy university professor, married to a man who had started and was the CEO of a busy computer programming business, and the two of them had three small children. Plus Diana had a part-time job teaching computer courses to the public, and wrote tech articles for InfoWorld and other publications. She wrote in the middle of the night when her kids were asleep and she had some quiet time to herself.

Any busy parent with young kids knows about being busy and trying to eke out some time for themselves.

Diana has said that OUTLANDER was her experiment to learn how to write a novel. I'd say she nailed it. :-)

All best,

Loretta

Thank-you Diana,

I celebrate my Scottish heritage with joy and sadness; now drink single malt whisky, just a small dram sipped; I have been learning Scottish Gaelic for three years; have visited and stayed in Scotland three times, with more planned; I re-read your books to see what I missed the first time or become better acquainted with characters; watch the episodes over and over again; listen to and love Celtic music... there's some playing on the radio as I write this.
I find myself in tears over Jenny's character and I love young Ian too. He reminds me of my sons. Roger is another that struggles with life but rallies and forgives himself and others. Marsali has developed and matured... and more.
You have a remarkable skill at creating life. I am in awe.
I think of writing a book myself, but it would be like your first, written in secret and fear.
Well done on overcoming the hurdles and proving yourself to be a genuine historian and also an awesome, super imaginative, wonder-woman !!

I grew up a reader and in my 45 years have never had a story more profound and sadly I have only watched the series. My mother turned me on to the series and many family members are fans of your story. As is so many people in this very fast age spending time reading seems to escape me but Oh My the story on the screen.

My wife and I have binge-watched and I can only imagine the story I may be missing in the pages. My wife and I have held on to each other, laughed, cried, and rejoiced throughout the tale. I think those emotions are the visible tip of the iceberg of emotions stirred while traveling through your story.

Jamie is a Hero that transcends time and sets himself apart from any hero from any story I have ever read. Oh, how have I not heard this tale until now?

Please forgive that I have not read 3 pages to see if I would or would not set the book down, because I pressed play on Netflix and 3 minutes later I could not press stop. I will. In the style of James Fraser himself, you have my word, Lassie. I will read every book.

Hello Diana,

I used to dream of writing novel way back when I'm seven. But never started. My husband and I love your Outlander. Thanks to Netflix. But I would like to read the books..maybe it's more interesting and intriguing and romantic.

Do you have surplus copies? I would love to have it with your signature.

Your fan,

Hi Nancy and Diana, I am almost 79 yrs. old, wishing I live long enough to read the last book #9, maybe not the last at my age will be for me. I only found out about the series 2017. I watched all the episodes in the 1st through the 3rd season. Bought the books and binged read and made it through all 8 in about 2 weeks. Have read again, and now just read parts I book marked after Season 4, will read all again. Never have I read a writer I love more than Diana Gabaldon. I love books, have read so many novels, other kind also.
