Hi,

Diana has been on travel so I forwarded this information to her. I looked it up and today the range of gopher snakes, a subspecies of the Pituophis family, indeed are found on the pacific coast into the Great Plains. The eastern pine snake is also a subspecies of Pituophis constrictors.

And there are no gophers in the Carolinas now, but there are gopher frogs and gopher tortoises. I could not figure out how to check if there were in the 1700s.

Will post Diana’s reply if she doesn’t have time to this week.

Thanks for the excerpt but do check with a herpetologist. There are no gopher snakes in NC, though there are some white gopher ones, also known as pine snakes. Brianna would not see gopher or pine snakes in MA where she grew up either.

I bought Cross Stitch so many years ago as a second hand book. Then I sought out the rest of the three books in the series that you had written. Since then I have read and reread the series with each new book and several times in between. I would not want to be Claire but I think I would have been a good 2IC to her! She, Jaimie and their family have got me through some very hard times. So much so that I have bought 8 of the books in paperback and then again in Kindle. Now I am rebuying them all in non Kindle as I leave that space. I constantly give thanks that you tried to write a book. And in my life as a carer to so many in my family, I thank you for taking me away, giving me inspiration to be courageous and committed, and reminding me of my faith and what it means for my journey. Do Brianna’s kids not know about her other father? Frank was good to her. He raised her and they loved each other. Would she not honor his memory by telling her children about him? It made me sad that calling him “my father” would be a “slip.” William calls 3 women “mother.” I know Jamie is greatful to Frank for being there for Bree when he couldn’t be. I’d love to hear her talk to her kids about him and not have to pretend he was a neighbor.

I am 86 yrs old, be 87 in September. I’m hoping to be alive when the final book is published!!
I’ve read all the books at least twice!! I would reread the prior books when a new one would be published.

What can I say? Loved, Loved, Loved all the books and the series! Way back when, when my sister, Mom and myself read the books, my sister commented: Wow, what a great movie this would be! Little did we know thats exactly what happened with the TV series. I have to comment, the characters were so spot on, it was as if they stepped out of the pages of the books. That is not always the case, and we could not believe it. My husband also enjoyed the shows, (Which is never easy in our house to agree on) and could not wait until Friday night to watch. Regarding the final show, we loved the ending in that there may be hope after all in their future together. Maybe another journey??? Thank you Diana for a wonderful, wonderful ride. PS: I agree with the previous comments, we did not want the series to end!!!

I am sure you have heard the comment previously that your readers don’t want Outlander to ever end.

Episode 10 question/comment:
* Why did Clare not open Jamie’s vest and shirt as she had done so many times for other patients? My veteran husband always commented that the first thing that is done with a sucking chest would is cover the “hole.” But, she would have had to send someone to fetch her medicine kit that she dropped.
* Very glad the TV version circled back to the ghost of Jamie that Frank saw. I thought about the possibilities lengthily.

General Comments:
* Outlander has been a riveting and enriching experience over the last few years. After seeing the first season, I ordered the book from the library and thereafter bought books 1-9. I have read each one at least twice and I cannot imagine ever finding another book series as captivating.
* The research you have done educates as well as entertains. I am humbly in awe of you.
* If you have not already written the ending to Book 10, please consider letting Jamie and Clair survive to spend their golden years together back on the Ridge?

What a life’s work! Wonderful combination of imagination, education, energy and extraordinary writing. I am eager to read the last book. I only hope that if there’s French in it, you obtained better help for it than in the earlier books. You are so careful with details etc. I’m dismayed by the errors or poor word choice in almost every dialogue; even a chapter title. Granted: few readers will know or care, but I have a feeling you do. Similarly, I’m sure very few viewers were taken aback by an 18th century Parisian waif exclaiming “Okay…” for the most part a twentieth century American exclamation. This critique aside, none of it can take away from the extraordinary contribution that is “Outlander.” No matter what, I’m still an unabashed fan.

I love the Outlander TV series but because of the depth and detail of the books they cannot compete.
