Writing a novel that is about 800 pages (equal to about four ‘regular’ sized novels) with real history interwoven takes time.

Plus Diana will not release a new book until she is happy with it. Methinks it will be worth the wait.

Thank you so much for sharing a glimpse of your writing process. It has given me encouragement to write again. I also don’t always think in linear terms. My English and journalism professors always tried to drill into me about outlines, and linear thinking and processes. THAT’S NOT ME! And yes I did shout that at a professor one time in a moment of great frustration.

Hello Ms. Gabaldon.

I have read a number of your books and been quite impressed with both your context and style. I enjoyed them thoroughly as I know how involved writing historical fact woven into fiction can be and the American Revolution is particularly intriguing.

While I know that you have a science background, I was interested in your descriptions of the “stones”. Minerals do have magnetic fields but I wondered how you knew or rather chose to use a “buzzing” or hissing sound describing when the portals activated. I find that one of the most intriguing aspects of your books.

I would appreciate learning more about it but, regardless, I wish you the best on your release of the new book as well as the Starz series.

Diana is busy right now so I am answering most web comments for her.

All the information about the series is contained on Diana’s website. I encourage you to read and explore her website; it has lots of great information.

Diana is working hard on BEES, book nine. When it is done, she will write and do research for Book Ten (No title yet). Diana has said that Book Ten will be the last in the series of major OUTLANDER novels that feature Jamie and Claire.

After that she is planning to write a prequel which tells the story of Jamie’s parents. After that she may write a book about Master Raymond. And she has had a contemporary mystery tentatively titled RED ANT’S HEAD on the back burner.

I’ve learned so much from reading…and re-reading your books! There is no comparison to how much history I’ve learned in class vs your books. I had one phenomenal history teacher in college. Still no comparison to you. Thank you. You make history FASCINATING!!

Take your time on the 9th book. Although I’m chomping at the bit, I also don’t want it to end. I don’t even want to know if it will be the last one in the series.

Can’t wait for GTTBIHG. Very impressed with your research and factual professionalism. But your insight into the emotional relationship between these two main characters has grabbed me and my wife of 53 years by the very core of our lives together ( we had military separations while Joan kept my life together until I could return). I have so many thoughts about how this will end. Outlander is a great (no Magnificent) love story. We identify with it. Hope you consider this a compliment of the highest order. I ken you will! On May 9, 2018, Starz announced that the series would be renewed for two more seasons, season 5 (the most recent one) and season 6.

So yes, there will be a Season 6.

I have read just about all of your books more than once, and I love locating the words that I can’t define. And in your books, that happens quite a bit. As my favorite way to read in the last decade has been on my e-readers, it helps that I can highlight the word and look it up all at once. I think my next project after I finish my latest re-reading of “MOBY” is to compile a list of those unknown words and see if I can master them. I look forward to continuing to expand my vocabulary when Bees comes out.

For about 20 odd yrs me and my sister have been reading your books nearly every 9 month (as we collect them when we could find, yes we both have our own full collection – 8 at the moment)now I’m just waiting for the latest to finish – “Bees”.
Is there going to be more series of The Outlander, love, love, loved it and plan on watching the lot again in my birthday month – January.
Might be time to read them over again soon then I’ll probably jump into watching the 5 series again.
