Dear Ashley--

I'm morally certain that Roman Berrux (the excellent young actor playing Fergus) will not be exposed to any actual ravagement--or for that matter, any emotionally disturbing filming. As to the depictions of sex in the show...tastes will always differ with regard to such things. What to one viewer is tasteful and beautiful, a celebration of two people in love with each other, is another person's dirty titillation. As I often say with regard to writing, if one is lucky enough to have more than one reader, there's no hope of pleasing them all--so don't worry about it. Write the best book you can, with honesty and truth, and people will make of it what they will, on the basis of their own background, experience and perspective. I'm sure the same is true of film.

 Best wishes,

 --Diana

Ms. Gabaldon,

I am evidently in the miniscule minority, but I do not like all the "titillating" depiction of the women in the series. I do like the scenery, costuming and story. The acting is good, but, I am embarrassed seeing Jaime and Claire make love. Showing such a private act, versus reading about it, is entirely different. And the gratuitous bodice ripping, male genitalia and semi-nude cavorting is offensive to me (mainly for the benefit of a male audience, I presume). But, Hollywood being what it is, Mr. Moore, and not only him, is giving the audience what he perceives they want: soft porn. Look it up on Wikipedia. It is defined precisely. I do hope they don't try to continue to deceive themselves that is not what it is. And, that is what we are getting in this series. Little by little, we are being pushed to accept things on T.V. that we never used to see. One of these days, we will get full-blown porn and no one will blink an eye; they will demand more.

Therefore, I will not be watching this winter's show. God knows how Mr. Moore will represent Fergus being ravaged by Black Jack - what would the child actor's parents say? Or, are they pimping him for the money he'll earn?

Sadly,

After looking at the photos of Frazer Hines as Jamie McCrimmon, I remember having a crush on him as a child. I was under 10years old when I would have watched him on Dr Who (hiding behind the couch as I was so scared of the monsters)
I do hope he is cast in Outlander even if only a cameo.
Especially looking forward to seeing your cameo too. I'm hoping you are involved in the wedding somehow.

Dear Diana,
I am still wondering about my question (July 24th) concerning Frank's access to the desk at Lallybroch. I must say that I am thrilled with the way you have "thickened the plot" with Frank's involvement after so many years. I just love the way your mind works! I am also ecstatic about the "Outlander" television series! Sort of a whole new world to experience. Thank you again for this precious gift.

Blessings,
Linda Lebo

Hello Diana, I just love the series of Outlander and have all the books and reread them again and again. I believe I'm on my 5th read.
My question to you is; is the tv series of Outlander going to be aired in Canada and if so, when? I did read at one point that it was going to be aired Canada but no date or channel has been set.
Thank you for the lovely tale!!!

Diana, did you ever feel or think you needed to make a passage, a description "filmable" while writing it, after it was clear there were going to be years and years of Outlander series? :-)

I am asking because I am much interested in the process of writing and in you as author, among other things. You know, I am curious about the impact of televisation upon written fiction because I don't have a TV, visualisation is not that important in my life as it is nowadays in general (meaning I love Jamie & Co. with and without actors portraying them, though Sam, Tobias and Caitriona seem more than perfect to me) and so this is a new, exciting topic to me :-)

And do you think it will influence you?
