You’d need to ask Audible directly and perhaps those who sell the Kindle version about the sales. Diana doesn’t handle any of the sales or sale prices, nor do vendors normally notify her of special sales and such.

Are there plans for the Audible version of A Breath of Snow and Ashes to be discounted with Kindle book purchase? It’s the only one in the series that’s not available at the discount, so I’m wondering if that will change soon? Thank you so much for this world you’ve created!

Dear Dawn–

I’m afraid that Recorded Books (who produce the audiobooks for the series) no longer make CD sets for private purchase–only the (much more expensive) library editions. The books are all available as downloadable files via audible.com, though–as well as being available as companion products to the Kindle version (i.e., if you buy a Kindle book, you’ll be given the opportunity to purchase the audio version–which can by synced with the text version, to “read along” with you–at a substantial discount). Perhaps one of these options would work for your husband?

I have been actively trying to purchase A Breath of Snow and Ash, unabridged, on audio CD for my husband for over four months. I have read all of your available works in both the Outlander, and Lord John Gray series. Listening to your novels is part of my husband’s daily commute. Barnes and Noble lists it as temporarily out of stock. I just read this out-dated post, and thought possibly we were waiting on the abridged contract to expire; but it appears to have expired in 2015. The back of the box says to call the listed number for the next book; however, when we called, they said the only sell to schools (No offense, but as a teacher, I don’t believe your books to be school appropriare). I clicked on the hyperlink above that took my to Recordedbooks site, but when I typed in the title, unabridged and audio CD, the site had no results.
Any guidance on how I can secure book 6 on CD? I concerned I may run into this same issue on book 7&8 as well.

Dear Deborah–

Yes, all the books are available on Kindle. As to the abridged audiobooks, we’ve _almost_ succeeded in choking them off–I think A BREATH OF SNOW AND ASHES is the only one left, and that has only a few months to run on its license. I agree–total abominations. The original licenses were made, though, in a day when audiobooks weren’t yet popular and there _were_ no unabridged versions, save of very short books; no one ever thought anyone would want an unabridged version of something like one of my books [g]–but I insisted on keeping the unabridged rights, nonetheless. Which is why you do have the unabridged audiobooks now. [g]

darn it I clicked submit accidentally – I mistakenly checked out an abridged book and took it back telling the librarian that I thought there was a mistake LOL THAT is how this lil country bumpkin learned and now I will not waste my time on an abridged book – I am SHOCKED that ANY author would allow their blood sweat and tears to be reduced to a skeleton with no muscles, organs, meat or blood. I am willing to bet that MOST libraries will order your books upon request as they HAVE to be killer popular after the STARZ series and I’d advise readers to GET ON THE WAITING LISTS early…. but for me it’s a total waste of my time to spend 2, 3 hours listening to 1/4 of a book I won’t even bother. ALSO as for large print – are your books available electronically for Kindle? THAT would solve that problem.

I am SO GLAD you learned that abridged means “we are not publishing your book on audio tape (CD) we are publishing a ghost of your book. I fell in love with audio books in the early 90s when I got a copy of one of Tony Hillerman’s UNabridged books from my local library – after a few I MISTAKENLY checked out an ABRIDGED

No, none of the ebook editions are abridged. Why would they be? It costs no more to publish a 1000-page ebook than a 5-page one. [g]

I’ve actually only just started reading and am scrupulous about avoiding abridged versions of stories. Do you know whether any of the kindle versions of your nooks have been abridged by the publishers? If so I’ll just follow up with physical copies, but if not I like the ease and ecology of utilizing the kindle. Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
